Violence in intimate relationships is a current problem affecting society. Research has been addressing violence in intimate relationships as a bidirectional phenomenon, and attachment may have an influence on it. The main aim of this study was to understand how the type of attachment influences bidirectional violence in an intimate relationship; to assess whether there is an association between anxious and avoidant attachment styles and bidirectional violence; to assess whether there are gender differences in anxious and avoidant attachment styles in bidirectional violence and to assess whether there are significant differences between the types of violence in terms of attachment. A sociodemographic questionnaire, the Revised Conflict Tactics Scale and the Experiences in Close Relationships were applied. The results show a very weak significant negative correlation between bidirectional violence and anxious attachment and a very weak non-significant negative correlation between bidirectional violence and avoidant attachment; the female sex showed a higher level of avoidant attachment; there are significant differences in anxious attachment in the non-violent and bidirectional violence groups and in the bidirectional and unidirectional violence groups. Implications for practice and conclusions were addressed. Keywords: bidirectional violence; violence in intimate relationships; attachment; insecure attachment
