Social desirability is a concept characterized by a tendency to distort self-reports of person in a favorable direction, thus avoiding socially undesirable behavior. As such, this tendency could have an impact on any psychological evaluation. Still, social desirability is not invariant in the population and may vary according to sociodemographic variables. In order to better understand the effects of these variables on social desirability, in the present study 232 children between 6 and 13 years were assessed using the Children's Social Desirability Questionnaire (CSD; Crandall, Crandall, & Katkovsky, 1965 reduced version and adapted by Costa & Veloso, 2008), which measures the level of desirability, and Graffar Scale (adapted by Fonseca, 1990), which provides a socio-economic classification. The results revealed that gender and socio-economic variables did not influence levels of social desirability. On the other hand, age shows a significant relationship, with younger children have higher levels of social desirability compared to the older ones. The results revealed that gender and socio-economic variables did not influence levels of social desirability. On the other hand, age shows a significant relationship, with younger children displaying higher levels of social desirability compared to the older ones.
