This dissertation is the result of an empirical, qualitative, and exploratory study conducted within the framework of Supervised Teaching Practice in the subject of Drawing A. The research question addressed is: "What are the challenges and benefits of collaboration between urban artists and students in the context of visual arts education? And how can this practice contribute to students' understanding of urban culture?" Throughout the academic year 2022/2023, various thematic units related to urban art, mural painting, and illustration were implemented with an 11th-grade class, culminating in a final mural painting project at the school. This project was developed in collaboration with a local artist and illustrator from Amarante. The research methodology employed was action research, incorporating a project work methodology. It was observed that the teaching and learning process of drawing is enhanced when students are engaged with the thematic content. The study aims to promote contemporary techniques in visual arts to expand students' creative horizons. Interdisciplinary dimensions and current artistic expressions were addressed to enrich students' skills in technique, expression, creativity, autonomy, cooperation, creation, and reflection. This research explores the importance of urban art in visual arts education and seeks to understand the challenges and benefits of collaboration between urban artists and students through the practical mural painting project conducted at the school. The approach aims to broaden students' repertoire, motivate them to appreciate the diversity of artistic styles, and foster critical and conscious thinking. Keywords: urban art, mural painting, illustration, interdisciplinarity, project methodology.
