O mundo atual é caracterizado por um cenário de constante mudança e imprevisibilidade, impulsionado pelo avanço tecnológico e pela globalização. As empresas enfrentam desafios cada vez mais complexos, que exigem uma rápida adaptação de forma a manterem-se competitivas no mercado. O processo de liderança sofreu inevitavelmente alterações, surgindo o paradigma de liderança virtual para dar resposta às atuais necessidades. Conceptualmente a liderança virtual é o termo utilizado para designar o processo de liderança mediado pelas Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação - TIC. Assim, esta dissertação tem como objetivo identificar as competências necessárias que um líder virtual deve ter, para continuar a influenciar os seus liderados neste contexto. A estratégia metodológica utilizada para a elaboração da presente dissertação foi a mista, dado que as análises realizadas necessitam de interpretação, mas também revelam tendência para a quantificação. Para a sua elaboração foi feita uma revisão de literatura referente ao novo paradigma da liderança virtual, a elaboração de um modelo de competências conceptual, baseado nos diferentes autores presentes na literatura e, a validação deste modelo de competências em contexto prático. Numa segunda fase, esta análise teve como base o recurso a questionários e entrevistas, aplicados a dois grupos diferentes, líderes e operacionais, com vista a obter-se uma visão ampla das competências consideradas essenciais em contexto organizacional. A amostra em estudo é constituída por 26 colaboradores, sendo 11 pertencentes à amostra de cargos de liderança e 15 à amostra de cargos operacionais, numa população de 150 colaboradores da direção analisada. Como resultado, apresenta-se um modelo final composto por 9 competências, sendo as seguintes: Comunicação eficaz; Construção de confiança; Coordenação/gestão da equipa; Mentalidade global/multicultural; Gestão de mudanças; Proficiência tecnológica; Habilidades sociais; Proficiência técnica e Formação contínua. The current world is characterized by a scenario of constant change and unpredictability, driven by technological advancement and globalization. Companies face increasingly complex challenges that require quick adaptation in order to remain competitive in the market. The leadership process has inevitably undergone changes, with the virtual leadership paradigm emerging to respond to current needs. Conceptually, virtual leadership is the term used to designate the leadership process mediated by Information and Communication Technologies - ICTs. Therefore, this dissertation aims to identify the necessary skills that a virtual leader must have, to continue influencing their followers in this context. The methodological strategy used to prepare this dissertation was mixed, given that the analyzes carried out require interpretation, but also reveal a tendency towards quantification. To prepare it, a literature review was carried out regarding the new paradigm of virtual leadership, the elaboration of a conceptual skills model, based on the different authors present in the literature, and the validation of this skills model in a practical context. In a second phase, this analysis was based on the use of questionnaires and interviews, applied to two distinct groups, leaders and operational, with a view to obtaining a broad view of the skills considered essential in an organizational context. The sample under study consists of 26 employees, with 11 belonging to the leadership positions sample and 15 to the operational positions sample, in a population of 150 employees from the analyzed department. As a result, a final model composed of 9 competencies is presented, as follows: Effective communication; Building trust; Team coordination/management; Global/multicultural mindset; Change management; Technological proficiency; Social skills; Technical proficiency and continuous training.
