Introduction: The community pharmacy sector is under severe financial pressure, mainly due to a series of legislative changes that have occurred in the last 15 years. This threat to the survival of pharmacies has led the pharmacist to adopt the role of manager, with a particular focus on stock management. The need to optimize these tasks caused the proliferation of buying groups. Objectives: To evaluate whether stocks management tasks have become more important in the management of a community pharmacy after this extended crisis, as well as studying some perceptions and habits of managers with this role. Methodology: Use of an online survey aimed at pharmacy professionals with stocks management role in order to evaluate the defined objectives. Results: The study covered a sample of 148 managers, mostly pharmacists with more than 10 years of experience. It was observed that the managers consider that: stock management takes an increased importance nowadays; most pharmacies use quantitative data to make purchases and belong to a buying group; and they handle with categories and merchandising. Conclusion: The increased importance of stock management is unequivocal, namely the inventory control and the purchases management, due to its economic impact. Pharmacies are increasingly joining in buying groups to benefit from their competitive advantages and promote impulse sales oriented through careful category management and merchandising.
