B-Girls. Métodos: Vinte e um breakers (26,19 ± 6,85 anos; 57,1% B-Boys) residentes em
Portugal constituíram a amostra deste estudo transversal observacional.

Breaking is the new Olympic modality that will be part of the Olympic sports charts in 2024, in Paris. The high incidence of injuries in this sport has affected the health of breakers and the number of studies in this area remains quite small. It is therefore necessary to collect information about the incidence and type of injuries in breakers in order to create injury prevention plans, targeting the health of B-Boys and B-Girls and contributing to a better performance of their performances. Objectives: To characterize the incidence and type of injuries in breaking athletes in Portugal and to collect crucial information for future researchers to design and incorporate into the training process an injury prevention program, aiming at the health of B-Boys and B-Girls. Methods: Twenty-one breakers (26.19 ± 6.85 years old; 57.1% B-Boys) living in Portugal constituted the sample of this observational cross-sectional study. The characterization of the incidence and type of injuries was done through an online questionnaire adapted from the literature on breaking injuries. Descriptive statistics were used for the whole project. Results: It was found that 7 (33,3%) of the 21 breakers suffered at least two injuries, with a total of 52 injuries. The anatomically most affected areas were the shoulders (21.15%) and knees (19.23%), being joint (59%) and muscle (17.31%) injuries the most common among the breakers. Conclusion: The results show a high incidence of joint and muscle injuries in the upper limbs, followed by the lower limbs. More studies about the incidence of injuries in breaking are needed.
