The topic of volunteering has been widely studied in literature, focusing on aspects such as the types of volunteering, the organizations that recruit volunteers and characteristics of those who do it, there is little development in the field of research studies that account for the individual aspects of volunteering to assist crime victims. Thus, this study aims to describe the volunteering experiences in this area, as well as the characteristics of those who carry out this task, in addition to their perceptions regarding difficulties, challenges, suggestions for improvement and the profile of the most suitable volunteer. Eleven volunteers from a crime victim support organization were interviewed using a semi-structured interview, applied individually. The data collected was analyzed according to the thematic analysis methodology, using the Nvivo 10 software. The results indicate that the volunteers have a positive assessment of their experience in caring for victims, highlighting learning / gains, both at an interpersonal and professional level, but also pointing out emotional management as a particular challenge of the job. Furthermore, the perceptions regarding the interpersonal and technical competencies that they believe they have, coincide with the ideal competencies of a volunteer in this area, pointed out by the motivation and values also appear relevant. All these elements are analyzed in the light of the literature regarding the profile of volunteers and volunteering management.
