The study aims to verify the possible associations of personality domains and the development of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptomatology in emergency medical professionals. The primary objective is to point out some predictive and potentiating individual characteristics of the development of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Method: The present study uses the context of virtual reality and filling out questionnaires to assess the variables used. The sample included 77 emergency medical professionals, of which 51 (66%) are men and 26 (33.8%) are women, aged between 19 and 70 years, from 5 fire stations and 1 from Cruz, in the north of the country. from Portugal. The measures used in this study will be a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5), Personality Inventory - NEO-FFI by Lima & Simões (1997 ;2006), composed of 60 items to assess personality traits. Results: Analyzing in the light of the Five Personality Traits theory, it was found that among all traits, Neuroticism works as a predictor for the development of PTSD symptoms. It was also found that the remaining traits that make up the personality do not present a positive or negative relationship with the PTSD symptomatology. Conclusions: The practical implications of this study include the contribution to the implementation of prevention and intervention strategies, at the personality level, since it constitutes a vulnerability factor for the development of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in emergency medical professionals. .
