Memória autobiográfica e psicopatologia - uma revisão sistemática

A investigação referente à memória autobiográfica tem vindo a sugerir que a sua apresentação afeta, de forma complexa e bidirecional, o funcionamento psicossocial do indivíduo, nomeadamente no que respeita à evocação de memórias específicas. No entanto, não existe ainda um corpo de conhecimento claro e sistematizado sobre o seu papel na psicopatologia. Pretendeu-se com este estudo sistematizar o conhecimento produzido até ao momento no respeitante à relação entre memória autobiográfica e psicopatologia, bem como perceber as suas implicações para a prática clínica. Foram extraídos 564 artigos de quatro bases de dados (PsycArticles, Web of science core collection, MEDLINE e Scopus), publicados entre janeiro de 2014 e dezembro de 2019, de modo a selecionar estudos que analisavam a associação entre memória autobiográfica e psicopatologia, numa população clínica com mais de 18 anos. Trinta e um artigos cumpriram os critérios de inclusão estabelecidos. Os resultados apontam para a sobregeneralização da memória autobiográfica em todas as perturbações em estudo, nomeadamente no que respeita à sua associação com evitamento funcional e funcionamento cognitivo, e ao seu impacto na memória autobiográfica autonoética. Foram encontradas limitações metodológicas, nomeadamente na diversidade de instrumentos de avaliação utilizados, que dificultam a sistematização de conclusões neste domínio de investigação. Discutem-se as implicações destes resultados para a prática clínica e para o desenvolvimento da investigação futura.
Research on autobiographical memory has suggested that its presentation affects, in a complex and bidirectional way, the individual’s psychosocial functioning, particularly regarding the evocation of specific memories. However, there is still no clear and systematized body of knowledge about its role in psychopathology. The aim of this study was to systematize the knowledge produced to date concerning the relationship between autobiographical memory and psychopathology, as well as to understand its implications for clinical practice. We extracted 564 articles from four databases (PsycArticles, Web of science core collection, MEDLINE and Scopus), published between January 2014 and December 2019, in order to select studies that analysed the association between autobiographical memory and psychopathology in a clinical population older than 18 years. Thirty-one articles met the established inclusion criteria. The results point to the overgeneralization of autobiographical memory in all disorders under study, particularly regarding its association with functional avoidance and cognitive functioning, and its impact on autonoetic autobiographical memory. Methodological limitations were found, particularly in the diversity of instruments of evaluation used, which make it difficult to systematize conclusions in this research area. The implications of these results for clinical practice and for the development of future research are discussed.
