This thesis aims to study the improvement of thermal comfort of buildings in process of rehabilitation, with the intention to preserve all its original characteristics as an old building. For this work, the building chosen was the Civil Government Building, in Porto. The importance of thermal comfort in buildings is a relatively new subject, especially for the construction. Throughout the thesis, it is presented an analysis of three fundamental aspects to the completion of the study of thermal conditions of the intervention project: the rehabilitation, the thermal comfort and the components of the building with impact on thermal behaviour, i.e., during the rehabilitation process it was analysed its historical framework and the rehabilitation case study, the Civil Government Building, as well as its characteristics and main problems. In the chapter dedicated to the study of thermal comfort, were studied several key aspects that help to understand how it is possible to obtain thermal comfort in buildings. This problematic has been one of the many concerns of the rehabilitation area experts, especially the implementation of measures that enhance the conditions of comfort and reduce energy consumption. The components of buildings with impact on thermal behaviour were analysed, that is, all the building elements of the building surroundings were studied, to understand the characteristics of each one. This step was essential to structure the intervention project and to promote the improvement of the thermal comfort conditions. Finally, it is presented an intervention proposal and the solutions to improve thermal conditions, as well as the final considerations about the study conducted throughout this dissertation.
