dc.description.abstractA otite externa é a doença mais comum do canal auditivo externo canino, podendo surgir como uma manifestação de uma patologia subjacente, nomeadamente a doença alérgica. O principal sinal clínico relatado pelos tutores é o prurido auricular, que pode ser manifestado por coçar, abanar a cabeça ou pela presença de otohematomas. A maior dificuldade não reside no diagnóstico de otite propriamente dita, mas sim na determinação da sua etiologia, dado que esta é multifatorial. Contudo, existem exames complementares indispensáveis a realizar, entre eles a citologia auricular, que constitui uma das bases para a elaboração do plano terapêutico. Este depende também da causa subjacente, passando, muitas vezes, pela gestão da mesma e, concomitantemente, pelo tratamento das otites resultantes. O prognóstico é dependente da correta identificação da causa primária, da resposta ao tratamento e da adequada gestão da patologia subjacente. O presente relatório de estágio foi elaborado no âmbito de um estágio curricular realizado no Hospital Veterinário das Laranjeiras. O objetivo deste trabalho consistiu em rever e comparar a literatura mais atual relativamente à otite canina, de forma a relacionar o historial clínico, sintomatologia, exames complementares e terapêutica descritos a nível bibliográfico com os 4 casos clínicos acompanhados no estágio curricular. dc.description.abstractExternal otitis is the most common disease of the canine external auditory canal and may appear as a manifestation of an underlying pathology, namely allergic disease. The main clinical sign reported by the tutors is ear pruritus, which can be manifested by scratching, head shaking or by the presence of otohematomas. The greatest difficulty does not lie in diagnosing otitis itself, but in determining its etiology, given that it is multifactorial. However, there are complementary tests that are essential to perform, including auricular cytology, which constitutes one of the bases for the elaboration of the therapeutic plan. This also depends on the underlying cause, often involving its management and, at the same time, the treatment of the resulting otitis. Prognosis is dependent on correct identification of the primary cause, response to treatment and adequate management of the underlying pathology. This internship report was prepared within the scope of a curricular internship held at Hospital Veterinário das Laranjeiras. The objective of this work was to review and compare the most current literature on canine otitis in order to relate the clinical history, symptomatology, complementary exams and therapy described in the bibliography with the 4 clinical cases followed in the curricular internship.
