dc.description.abstractO presente relatório de estágio curricular foi realizado no âmbito da conclusão de Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária da Universidade Lusófona e aborda três casos clínicos recolhidos na clínica veterinária de São Gonçalo - São Miguel, Açores. Todos os animais apresentavam lesões na extremidade distal dos membros pélvicos, mais concretamente no tarso, de origem traumática e consequentes fraturas, subluxações ou luxações por lesão dos tecidos moles peri-articulares. Para obtenção de um diagnóstico definitivo foi necessário realizar um exame físico e ortopédico detalhado e recorrer a exames complementares de diagnóstico por imagem como radiografia e tomografia computorizada. A artrodese pantarsal é uma técnica cirúrgica que promove a fusão das articulações tibiotársica, intertársicas e tarsometatársica e é utilizada com o intuito de eliminar a dor e fornecer boa estabilidade articular de forma a promover conforto e funcionalidade do membro. A escolha da técnica cirúrgica deve ter em conta fatores inerentes ao paciente, como a idade e o temperamento e, natureza e localização da lesão de forma a assegurar resultados satisfatórios.pt
dc.description.abstractThis report was part of the curricular internship of the Integrated Master’s Degree in Veterinary Medicina at Universidade Lusófona and refers to three clinical cases from Clínica Veterinária de São Gonçalo – São Miguel, Azores. All the presented animals had traumatic injuries at the level of the distal part of the pelvic limb including fractures, luxations or subluxations when the peri-articular soft tissues were affected. In order to achieve a final diagnosis a detailed orthopedic physical exam was performed and the usage of complementary imaging exams is recommended such as radiography and computerized tomography. Pantarsal arthrodesis is a surgical procedures that promotes the fusion of the tarsocrural, intertarsals and tarsometatarsal joints in order to provide alleviate pain, provide comfort and funcionatily to the limb. The choice of procedure to be used to promote arthrodesis should have in consideration patient factores such as age, temperament and the characteristics of the lesion itself in order to achieve the better result. During the internship internal fixation techniques were preferred using a locking compression plates. All animals were monitored during the inmediate post-operative period and had na expected recovery. Keywords: tarsus; tarsocrural joint; pantarsal arthrodesis; bone plates; external fixation.en
