dc.description.abstractObjetivos: As experiências adversas na infância (EAI) podem ter efeitos negativos duradouros na saúde e no bem-estar dos indivíduos. O suporte social tem sido consistentemente apontado como um fator de proteção, com o potencial de melhorar o bem-estar e amortecer o impacto de situações stressantes e dificuldades da vida. Contudo, pouco se sabe sobre a satisfação do suporte social em amostras de crianças e jovens em perigo. O presente estudo investigou a relação entre as EAI e a satisfação com o suporte social em adolescentes. Método: A amostra foi composta por 189 participantes, com idade média de 16 anos (DP= 1.23), variando entre os 13 e os 18 anos, dos quais 95 (50.3%) eram do sexo feminino e 94 do sexo masculino (49.7%). Resultados: Os resultados revelaram que o abuso emocional (β = -.21, t(-2.55) = -4.20) e a negligência emocional (β = -.15, t(-2.15) = -2.71) foram as EAI que mais contribuíram para menor satisfação com o suporte social. Conclusões: O abuso emocional e a negligência emocional parecem ter impacto a longo prazo na satisfação com o suporte social. As crianças abusadas e negligenciadas emocionalmente poderão ter desenvolvido crenças negativas sobre si mesmas e sobre os outros, influenciado a autoestima, que por sua vez poderão ter comprometido o desenvolvimento de competências sociais e emocionais, explicando assim a menor satisfação com o suporte social. São discutidas propostas de futuros estudos para confirmação destas hipóteses.pt
dc.description.abstractObjectives: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) can have lasting negative effects on the health and well-being of individuals. Social support has been consistently indicated as a protective factor, with the potential to improve well-being and buffer the impact of stressful situations and life difficulties. However, little is known about the satisfaction of social support in samples of children and young people at risk. The present study investigated the relationship between ACE and satisfaction of social support among adolescents. Method: The sample consisted of 189 participants, with a mean age of 16 years (SD= 1.23), ranging between 13 and 18 years, of which 95 (50.3%) were female and 94 were male (49.7%). Results: The results revealed that emotional abuse (β = -.21, t(-2.55) = -4.20) and emotional neglect (β = -.15, t(-2.15) = -2.71) were the ACE that most contributed to less satisfaction with social support. Conclusions: Emotional abuse and emotional neglect may have a long-term impact on satisfaction with social support. Emotionally abused and neglected children may have developed negative beliefs about themselves and the others, influencing self-esteem, which in turn compromise the development of social and emotional skills, explaining the less satisfaction with social support. Future studies are discussed to confirm these hypotheses.en
