The teaching of Visual Arts, through the specific knowledge, the aggregating potential and the set of experiences that its creative process can provide, assumes a fundamental role in the formation and development of the students' identity and in the educational system. The application of project methodology, combining research and knowledge from different domains and different cultural realities, on an aggregating theme related to natural heritage, was decisive in arousing the students' interest in the "Atlantic Ocean" project. Through actual implementation, theoretical and abstract knowledge was transferred, work methodology was appropriated and critical, autonomous and creative thinking was developed. The work methodology considered the phases of Research/Research; Visual Composition; Planning/Visual Experimentation; Materialization/Final Object and Exhibition Assembly. In each phase a control point was made for reflection and evaluation of the degree of achievement. The application of the teaching/learning methodologies supported reflective, analytical and interpretative thinking which allowed for the exploration and deepening of knowledge. The creative process developed, using the strengths of the teaching methodologies of the visual arts, allowed for the transformation of difficulties into effective work opportunities and proved to be very advantageous in the definition of pedagogical interventions.
