A abordagem de Fernando Távora ao espaço público em Guimarães : proposta de intervenção no Largo Ator Dias

Resumo
A presente dissertação tem por base analisar o método projetual do Arquiteto Fernando
Távora, acerca da organização do espaço publico urbano em Guimarães, para posteriormente
demonstrar, de que forma, esse estudo influenciou a proposta de intervenção desenvolvida no
âmbito da unidade curricular de projeto 5, sob o tema “Casa do Jazz do Largo Ator Dias -
Recuperação do espaço urbano”.
Ao nível da sua estrutura desenvolve no primeiro momento uma introdução ao tema
abordado nesta dissertação, mencionando o enquadramento, objetivos e metodologia. No
segundo capítulo realiza-se a revisão da literatura, compreendendo os conceitos de espaço
público e a sua evolução ao longo dos tempos, para tal serão analisados textos de diversos
autores, tanto a nível internacional como nacional, de forma a justificar os diferentes conceitos
utilizados que definem estes espaços na cidade. Posteriormente a perspetiva de intervenção do
Arquiteto Fernando Távora apresentando as suas ideias e filosofia de intervenção, através da
análise de duas obras literárias “O problema da casa portuguesa” e “Da organização do espaço”.
No mesmo ponto é feito também uma breve analise das experiências francesas, inglesas e
italianas que tiveram uma influência direta na reabilitação dos centros históricos em Portugal e
de que forma a abordagem de Távora em Guimarães se enquadra nos pressupostos destes
países.
De seguida, fez-se uma breve analise da evolução urbana da cidade de Guimarães,
demonstrando de que forma esta evoluiu de dois concelhos autónomos para a atualidade, com
recurso à programação levada a cabo pela autarquia sistematizada numa tabela com os vários
instrumentos de gestão territorial elaborados no último seculo.
Neste ponto são analisadas também as intervenções feitas pelo Arquiteto Fernando Távora
nos espaços públicos em Guimarães, tendo sempre em conta a sua filosofia projetual, com
recurso a plantas do arquiteto e fotografias atuais dos diferentes espaços.
Por fim, apresenta-se a proposta de intervenção no Largo Ator Dias, explicando de que forma
o estudo da ligação entre a prática projetual e as abordagens teóricas anteriormente estudadas
influenciaram esse exercício.
The present dissertation is based on analyzing the design method of Architect Fernando Távora, regarding the organization of the public space in Guimarães, to later demonstrate how this study influenced the intervention proposal developed in the curricular unit of project 5, under the theme of “Jazz house of Largo Ator Dias-Restoration of urban space”. At the level of its structure, it initially develops an introduction to the theme addressed in this dissertation, mentioning the framework, objectives and methodology. In the second moment, the literature review takes place, understanding the concepts of public space and its evolution overtime, for this purpose texts from different authors will be analyzed, both internationally and nationally, in order to justify the different concepts used that define these spaces in the city. Subsequently the intervention perspective of Architect Fernando Távora is analyzed, presenting his ideas and philosophy of intervention, through the analysis of two literary works “The problem of the Portuguese house” and “Of the organization space”. At the same point, a brief analysis is also made of the French, English and Italian experiences that had a direct influence on the rehabilitation of historic centers in Portugal and how Távora’s approach In Guimarães fits into the assumptions of these countries. Then, a brief analysis of the urban evolution of the city of Guimarães was made, demonstrating how it evolved from two autonomous municipalities to the present day, using the programming carried out by the autarchy systematized in a table with the various instruments of territorial management elaborated in the last century. At this point the interventions made by Architect Fernando Távora in public spaces in Guimarães are also analyzed, always taking into account his design philosophy, using the architect’s plans and current photographs of the different spaces. Finally, the intervention proposal at Largo Ator Dias is presented, explaining how the study of the connection between design practice and the previously studied theoretical approaches influenced this exercise.
