Turismo e comunidade local - as duas faces de uma mesma moeda : um estudo de caso na zona ribeirinha de Vila Nova de Gaia

De acordo com a Organização Mundial do Turismo (2016), durante décadas o turismo teve um crescimento contínuo e uma diversificação profunda até se tornar num dos setores económicos que cresce com maior rapidez em todo o mundo.
Atualmente o volume de negócios do turismo é igual ou superior ao das exportações de petróleo, produtos alimentares e automóveis, o que torna o turismo um motor chave do progresso socioeconómico e uma das principais fontes de receita de diversos países em desenvolvimento (OMT, 2017). Sendo um importante agente de mudança, causa impactos de diversos tipos: económicos, ambientais e socioculturais.
O desenvolvimento do turismo em Portugal acompanha a tendência mundial e as cidades do Porto e Vila Nova de Gaia são um bom exemplo disso. De acordo com dados do Pordata de 2018, Vila Nova de Gaia viu nascer em 2017 mais 5 estabelecimentos hoteleiros face ao ano anterior, registando cerca de mais 40 mil hóspedes. Este aumento na atividade turística provocou impactos na cidade: impactos económicos, pela entrada de turistas na cidade e receitas geradas, entre outros; impactos socioculturais pela interação entre turistas e residentes, pela revitalização dos costumes locais, como por exemplo, o artesanato; e ambientais ao nível de congestionamento, lixo, consumo de água, entre outros.
Assim, devido ao aumento de turistas na cidade e consequentemente na zona ribeirinha onde se situam as caves do vinho do Porto, surge o objetivo da presente dissertação: perceber qual a perceção dos residentes e comerciantes da zona ribeirinha de Vila Nova de Gaia sobre a atividade turística e os seus impactos, após o encerramento da via ao trânsito automóvel.
A metodologia utilizada é de natureza quantitativa, assente na aplicação de um inquérito por questionário e na sua análise. Sustentada numa lógica dedutiva, pretende-se analisar qual a perceção dos residentes e comerciantes dos impactos que o encerramento da via pode ter aos níveis - económico, ambiental e sociocultural.
According to the World Tourism Organization (2016), for decades the tourism had a continued growth and deep diversification to become an economic sector that grows more quickly around the world. Currently the tourism bussiness’ volume is equal or higher than the exports of oil, food and automobiles, this makes tourism a key engine of economic progress and a major source of revenue for several countries in development (WTO, 2017). Being an important agent of change, it causes impacts of various types: economic, environmental and socio-cultural. The development of tourism in Portugal follows the global trend and the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia are a good example of this. According to the data of Pordata of 2018, in 2017 Vila Nova de Gaia had more 5 hotels in relation to the previous year, recording around more 40 thousand guests. This increase in tourist activity caused impacts on the city: economic impacts, by the entry of tourists in town and revenue generated, among others; sociocultural impacts by the interaction between tourists and residents, for the revitalization of local customs, as for example, the crafts; and environmental as the level of congestion, litter, water consumption, among others. Thus, due to the increase of tourists in the city and consequently on the riverside area where the Port wine cellars are, the goal of this dissertation emerge: understand the perception of residents and merchants of the riverside area of Vila Nova de Gaia about touristic activity and their impacts after the route closure to the traffic. The methodology used is of quantitative nature, based on the application of an enquiry by questionnaire and in your analysis. Sustained in a deductive logic, it means to analyze what is the perception of residents and merchants of the impact that the closure of the route can have on economic, environmental and sociocultural levels.
