Envelhecimento Ativo; conhecer/compreender a dinâmica dos Centros de Dia;
Aging is an integral part of the natural process of life, making the elderly a very present population in our society. Despite representing a large slice of the population, their contribution to it is not very significant, which is why it was necessary to create social responses that would allow the elderly population to become more autonomous and maintain their routine without being a burden on society. With that in mind, this dissertation aimed to understand mainly how day centers can provide active aging and the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic, supported by a whole documentary research on the subject of active aging, which involves the elderly population, having been chosen to focus especially on the social response of the Day Centre. This work aims to understand the whole environment of Activing Aging; know/understand the Dynamics of Day Centers; understand Social Intervention with the elderly and finally understand the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic in promoting active aging. We opted for a qualitative methodology, having opted for semi-structured interviews conducted with professionals in the social area and users of Day Centers. Bibliographic research was also used for the entire theoretical framework and thematic content analysis was performed for the treatment of the data collected for the development of this dissertation. It was possible to observe that the social response of the Day Center has a great positive impact on the elderly, as it allows them to remain autonomous, always considering their well-being and needs, with social professionals being the main contributors to let this happen, it is significant to realize the impact that Covid-19 has had on both the lives of the elderly and these professionals. The most significant contribution was, to develop a theme of great impact and significance in today's society, with the aim of demystifying existing prejudices about the elderly population, demonstrating that the elderly are subjects of rights capable of making their own decisions and contributing to today's society. Also demonstrating that the creation and continuous improvement of the Day Center social response had a great impact not only on the lives of the users enrolled in it, but also on the social area technicians who carry out their intervention with the elderly, with each other and with the users’ surroundings.
