A esterilização é das cirurgias mais comuns na prática veterinária de animais de companhia, sendo também um tema discutido ao longo dos anos de qual a melhor forma de o fazer, como e quando. Todos os anos, novos estudos são realizados de maneira a poder responder a estas perguntas da melhor forma possível e, embora haja algumas divergências de autores para autores, este tema tem vindo a ganhar maior notoriedade e conhecimento. Atualmente, a ovariectomia (OVE) é o procedimento de eleição e é considerado pouco ético realizar ovariohisterectomia (OVH) ao invés, a não ser que haja razões de saúde especificas que indique o contrário. No presente relato são descritos cinco casos clínicos da técnica de ovariectomia por laparoscopia (LapOVE), onde são discutidos os temas de dor intra e pós-operatória, facilidade e rapidez na recuperação. Pretende-se, com o presente trabalho debater e viabilidade da técnica laparoscópica em relação à laparotomia, tendo em conta as suas vantagens, desvantagens e requisitos. Spaying is one of the most common surgeries in small animal practice, being also subject of discussion over the last few years on what is the best way to perform it, how and when. New studies are made on an annual basis in order to answer these questions the best way possible and, although there are some divergences in opinions, this topic has gained extra notoriety and knowledge. Nowadays, ovariectomy (OVE) is the gold standard procedure and it is considered quite unethical to perform an ovariohysterectomy (OHE) instead, unless there are health related reasons that indicate otherwise. The present report describes five surgical cases on the laparoscopic ovariectomy (LapOVE), where the topics of intra and postoperative pain, facility and quickness in recovery time are discussed. The aim of this paper is to debate the viability of the laparoscopic technic versus the open approach, considering its advantages, disadvantages and requirements.
