A literatura é globalmente consensual sobre o papel do suporte social in
Neste
sentido, este estudo pretendeu testar o papel moderador do suporte social (in person
Online social support is increasingly attracting interest in scientific literature at the international level, however, at national level, it needs greater scientific investment. The literature is globally agreed on the role of in person social support in terms of psychological functioning, however, the role of involvement in social networks and online social support is still a controversial issue. In this sense, this study intended to test the moderating role of social support (in person and online) in the relationship between loneliness and psychopathology (depression and anxiety). The sample consisted of 396 participants, of both sexes, aged between 18 and 61 years old (M = 28.80, SD = 9.84). The results obtained showed a correlation between social support (in person and online) and psychopathological symptoms, namely in terms of anxiety and depression. There were also statistically significant moderation effects in the relationship between loneliness and moderate depression, due to involvement in social networks (B = .0223; p = .030). The results point to the need to continue to invest in a more comprehensive approach to the role of online social support.
