The present study aims to examine whether the levels of anxious/avoidant attachment are related to the PTSS, as well as to test whether internalization and externalization symptoms are associated with PTSS symptoms. It is also intended to test whether the symptoms of internalization and externalization are mediators of PTSS development. Method: The sample included 92 young people between 12 and 17 years old, of which 52 (56.5%) were female and 40 (43.5%) male. Sixty young people (65%) were Professional Education students, 2 (2.2%) were part of the Project "Choices" and 30 (32.6%) lived in host institutions and were signaled by the CPCJ. The instruments used were: Socio-Demographic Questionnaire; Questionnaire on Experiences in Close Relationships - Relational Structures (ECR-RS), Skills and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ-POR) and the Child PTSD Symptoms Scale-V (CPSS-V). Results: The anxious and avoidant connection is correlated with the PTSS. It has also been found that the symptoms of internalization and externalization are correlated with the PTSS. Internalization symptoms proved to be mediators in the relationship between anxious and avoidant attachment and the symptoms of PTSD. However, externalization symptoms have not been shown to mediate the relationship between anxious /evasive attachment and PTSS. Conclusions: The practical implications of this study include the contribution to the implementation of prevention and intervention strategies, which should focus on systemic interventions, including the training of technicians of young people who are in institutions.
