The COVID-19 pandemic presented several non-normative challenges for today's adolescents which compromised opportunities for interactions with peers. This quantitative, retrospective, cross-sectional and comparative study aims to understand and characterize the relationship between COVID-19 pandemic-related isolation, and Portuguese adolescents' interpersonal relationships with peers based on data from the Health Behaviour in SchoolAged Children study (Currie et al., 2001; Matos & Equipa Aventura Social, 2018; Gaspar et al., 2022). Questionnaires were completed anonymously and voluntarily by 8th, 10th and 12th grade students in 2018 (Mage = 15.13, SD = 1.51), mostly female (54.1%) and in 2022 (Mage = 15.49, SD = 1.49), mostly female (55.0%). It was found that in the context of the pandemic, adolescents have more psychological symptoms (t(10149) = 13.81, p < .001) and lower psychological well-being (t(9518) = 4.59, p < .001), however the perception of social support from friends did not change significantly. The moderated mediation model indicates that the year of study significantly moderates the relationship between psychological symptoms and support from friends (coeff ,0439, p = ,0272). The data reinforce the fundamental role of support from friends in facing the challenges of adolescence. Keywords: Adolescents; COVID-19; Interpersonal relationships; Psychological well-being
