Adverse and benevolent experiences during childhood and adolescence can be a determining factor in the development of behavioral problems. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between antisocial behavior and adverse and benevolent experiences in childhood, to see if these experiences have a positive or negative impact in adulthood and if they contribute to the development of antisocial behavior. The sample consisted of 282 male and female inmates aged between 20 and 84. The participants answered a protocol of instruments, and only the Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Legal-Penal Questionnaire, the Childhood History Questionnaire, the Scale of Benevolent Experiences in Childhood and the Social Desirability Scale were considered for this study. The study's hypotheses were analyzed using correlation analyses and difference of means tests. The results showed a positive correlation between adverse childhood experiences and antisocial behavior, as well as a negative correlation between benevolent childhood experiences and antisocial behavior. Regarding the relationship between experiences and male and female gender, it was found that there were no significant differences between the means of the groups. The lack of significant differences between the sexes shows that childhood experiences have a similar impact on men and women. Understanding how adverse and benevolent experiences in childhood shape behavior throughout life reinforces the importance of growing up in positive environments.
