Previous studies have demonstrated the relationship between trauma, cognitive schemas, and difficulties in emotional processing, as well as their predictive capacity concerning symptomatology and well-being. This study aims to explore the extent to which the frequency of complex trauma impacts the development of dialectical core schemas and the consequent difficulties in emotional processing. To this end, a community sample (N = 185) was analyzed, revealing significant associations between complex trauma, difficulties in emotional processing, symptomatology, and certain core schemas. Furthermore, complex trauma was found to predict symptomatology and partially mediate the relationship between dialectical core schemas and difficulties in emotional processing. These findings partially support the impact of complex trauma on dialectical core schemas and fully support its influence on emotional processing difficulties, offering significant contributions for both clinicians and researchers.
