This study resulted from an investigation carried out within the supervised educational pedagogical practice, in a class of the 12th grade Visual Arts course, in the school year 2021/22, composed of 11 students enrolled in the discipline of Oficina de Artes. It presents a reflection on the importance of teaching visual arts in the 21st century and how artistic contents should be transmitted, in the post-modern scenario, based on the literature review. It thinks over the importance of approaching means and techniques of expression of contemporary art, new artistic languages, namely Street Art and of conveying this knowledge as a trigger to young students who conform with these artistic manifestations. Strategies were also studied in depth that lead to a reflexive and humanistic educational practice, seeking to promote motivation and cooperation in the classroom, in an educational practice open to the community inside and outside the school. It was sought to give the students references to names connected to contemporary art, thus promoting artistic knowledge and the objectification of targets for their future academic life. In a perspective of the construction of an artistic object with a thematic approach on local heritage and awareness/awareness raising for the preservation of the ecosystem with the theme - Mural: Património e Ecossistema local – it was carried out an empirical study. The research methodology used was a/r/tography, mainly due to the fact that it was conducted, structured and applied through the eyes of a teacher and plastic artist, reflecting on these two universes that intersect and mix in the classroom that have both antagonistic and analogous. From the arts research resulted the creation of an artistic object designed and painted in a space open to the educational community. The results obtained show the artistic potential achieved by the students, their capacity for reflection, their critical and analytical spirit when faced with the proposed challenge of painting a mural. The evidence and the data presented, beyond the graphic and plastic works carried out throughout the development of the didactic unit, can be understood through the reading of the written reflections of the students and the final object itself - the mural - which both benefited the learning of the students and empowered, from an artistic point of view, the Marquesa de Alorna High School in Almeirim where the research was carried out.
