Aging brings changes that can increase stress levels, making the implementation of stress management strategies crucial to promote healthier aging. However, many elderly individuals face difficulties due to low health literacy, which negatively impacts their well being. Few studies have explored the relationship between health literacy, well-being and stress management. Therefore, this study aims to characterize health literacy, health literacy, among older adults and investigate its relationship with well-being and stress management. A quantitative and cross-sectional study was conducted with 579 participants, aged between 65 and 98 years (M = 74.08, SD = 6.71), with 64.1% of the sample being women. Older adults, with lower education levels, and those who do not attend a senior university have lower levels of health literacy levels. Moreover, the use of the internet for health-related issues is still low. Health literacy, including digital, seems to contribute to the well-being of older adults by improving their stress management skills. Informative sessions, educational pamphlets on how to deal with stress, and training in information seeking are important aspects to implement in order to promote health literacy among the elderly.
