Violência obstétrica: estudo qualitativo sobre conceções e significados no contexto português

A violência obstétrica é caracterizada por práticas de maus-tratos no contexto da saúde reprodutiva da mulher. Efetivamente, a investigação atual sugere que mulheres em todo o mundo experienciam algum tipo de maus-tratos durante o parto. Para a melhor compreensão do fenómeno em Portugal, o presente estudo, pretendeu, através de uma abordagem qualitativa, identificar as dinâmicas da experiência de vitimação e o subsequente impacto percebido das mulheres nos diferentes domínios do seu funcionamento. Foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com dezanove mulheres residentes em Portugal, com idades compreendidas entre 22 e os 41 anos (M=33.2; DP=1.1), que solicitaram ajuda e/ou informação junto de instituições de apoio a este tipo de vítimas. Os dados recolhidos foram analisados de acordo com a análise temática, com recurso ao software QSR Nvivo10.
Da análise resultaram seis temas centrais, nomeadamente a experiência de maus-tratos, impacto psicológico para a vítima, processo de reconhecimento da vitimação, estratégias de coping, fatores precipitantes e outras dimensões do impacto da vitimação. Os resultados obtidos contribuíram para um maior conhecimento sobre as dinâmicas que permeiam a experiência abusiva e os impactos psicológicos resultantes da experiência de vitimação, sobretudo as dimensões subjetivas do impacto. Por fim, foram discutidos aspetos que determinaram o reconhecimento da vitimação e as estratégias de coping assumidas.
Obstetric violence is characterized by mistreatment in the context of women's reproductive health. Indeed, current research suggests that women around the world experience some form of mistreatment during childbirth. For a better understanding of the phenomenon in Portugal, the present study aimed, through a qualitative approach, to identify the dynamics of the victimization experience and the subsequent perceived impact of women in the different domains of their functioning. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with nineteen women residing in Portugal, aged between 22 and 41 years (M=33.2; SD=1.1), who requested help and/or information from institutions that support this type of victim. The collected data were analyzed according to thematic analysis, using the QSR Nvivo10 software. The analysis resulted in six central themes: the experience of abuse, the psychological impact on the victim, the process of recognizing victimization, coping strategies, precipitating factors and other dimensions of the impact of victimization. The results contributed to a better understanding of the dynamics that permeate the abusive experience and the psychological impacts resulting from the victimization experience, especially the subjective dimensions of the impact. Finally, aspects that determined the recognition of victimization and the coping strategies were discussed.
