This report is the result of the Supervised Teaching Practice (PES) carried out at Sá da Bandeira Secondary School, in the municipality and district of Santarém, as part of the Master's Degree in Visual Arts Teaching in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and Secondary Education, at the Lusófona University of Lisbon. Based on an action-research methodology, this document includes all the reflections, observations and planning carried out throughout the 2023/2024 school year, as part of the “Multicultural Narratives: me, you and everyone” project, developed in a 9th grade Visual Education class. The theme of multiculturalism in education structures all the research, the main aim of which was to explore the educational potential of the visual arts for the integration of immigrant populations and for promoting understanding and respect for the 'other'. The importance of arts teaching, its challenges in contemporary times and its contribution to multicultural education are some of the reflections that underpin the three didactic units that explore the theme of cultural diversity in different ways, using different teaching methodologies, motivation strategies, teaching materials, artistic references and data collection procedures, that have contributed to the success of the research. The proposed project and the way in which the didactic units operated brought about transformations in the students, which reinforced the idea that the arts can indeed contribute to understanding and respect for diversity, since they provide another look at reality, address issues that are relevant to society in a playful, deconstructed and easily accessible way and can give voice and visibility to the individual or collective ideas of a given group, challenging stereotypes and representing minorities.
