A Arquitetura Religiosa Contemporânea: projeto de uma igreja e centro paroquial junto ao Cemitério do Prado do Repouso no Porto

Resumo
A presente dissertação de mestrado – intitulada A Arquitetura Religiosa Contemporânea. Projeto de uma Igreja e Centro Paroquial junto ao Cemitério do Prado do Repouso no Porto – apresenta uma reflexão sobre a importância da arquitetura contemporânea destinada ao culto religioso, dando um panorama histórico e tipológico – através da exposição de estilos artísticos por nós eleitos, do românico ao contemporâneo –, e cujo levantamento efetuamos para a reflexão e realização do projeto de uma igreja e centro paroquial junto ao Cemitério do Prado no Porto.
Este nosso projeto inédito – integrado no corpus da presente dissertação (Capítulo IV) – obedece a um programa da cadeira de Projecto do 5.º ano, exposto no final do trabalho (Anexo 3), com vista à criação de um espaço litúrgico, onde se promove uma boa experiência religiosa, relevando o seu carácter espiritual e metafísico de forma a proporcionar também uma sensação de elevação e de alcance do divino. O projeto representa o culminar de toda a nossa investigação que sobrevoa o tempo, ditando as tendências e opções estéticas que mais nos tocam, como alguns nomes relevantes da arte e arquitetura.
Refletimos em particular sobre o caso português contemporâneo, investigando peças distintas e dispersas em regiões diferenciadas, fazendo jus à obra de arquitetos como João Luís Carrilho da Graça (Igreja de Santo António, Portalegre) e José Fernando Gonçalves (Capela de São José, Vila Nova de Gaia); e do atelier Roseta Vaz Monteiro (Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Boa Nova (Estoril). A escolha de três igrejas prende-se com o facto de querermos restringir o estudo e procurar casos semelhantes, em termos de programa, mas essencialmente porque as estudamos a fundo para idealizar a igreja e centro paroquial no Porto. Assim, todo o presente trabalho científico gira em torno deste projeto inédito, justificando-o e complementando-o, o qual será melhor entendido neste contexto.

This master’s thesis – entitled Contemporary Religious Architecture. Project of a Church and Parish Centre next to Prado do Repouso Cemetery in Oporto – presents a reflection on the importance of contemporary architecture for religious worship, giving a historical and typological overview – through the exposure of artistic styles elected by us, from Romanesque to contemporary – and whose survey we made for the reflection and realization of the project of a church and parish centre next to Prado Cemetery in Oporto. Our unpublished project – integrated in the corpus of the present dissertation (Chapter IV) – obeys a program of the 5th year Project subject, exposed at the end of the work (Annex 3), with the purpose of creating a liturgical space, where a good religious experience is promoted, highlighting its spiritual and metaphysical character in order to provide a feeling of elevation and of reaching the divine. The project represents the culmination of all our research, which flies over time, dictating the aesthetic trends and options that touch us most, such as some relevant names in art and architecture. We reflected in particular on the contemporary Portuguese case, investigating distinct pieces scattered in different regions, doing justice to the work of architects such as João Luís Carrilho da Graça (Santo António Church, Portalegre) and José Fernando Gonçalves (São José Chapel, Vila Nova de Gaia); and the Roseta Vaz Monteiro studio (Nossa Senhora da Boa Nova Church, Estoril). The choice of three churches is due to the fact that we wanted to restrict the study and seek similar cases, in terms of programme, but essentially because we studied them in depth to idealise the church and parish centre in Porto. Thus, all the present scientific work revolves around this unprecedented project, justifying and complementing it, which will be better understood in this context.
