Homens vítimas de violência na intimidade: perceções de estudantes universitários

A violência nas relações de intimidade contra os homens esteve sempre presente na nossa sociedade, apesar de omissa. O estereótipo e a desejabilidade social são os principais fatores associados à manutenção deste fenómeno de violência nas relações de intimidade. A nível internacional e nacional, os estudantes universitários mantêm perceções inadequadas acerca desta dinâmica, e revelam-se uma das populações em que este fenómeno está presente e que o nível de prevalência é elevado. Como pertinência deste estudo pretende-se uma compreensão das perceções dos estudantes universitários, para se possível, perceber as suas origens. Ao focar nestas origens é importante intervir de forma primária, remodelando as representações e perceções que estes constroem até aqui, em função dos comportamentos por aprendizagem ao longo do “novo” conceito de uma educação mais igualitária. Sendo os jovens universitários uma população alvo de maior interesse sobre este fenómeno, foi colocado online o instrumento de autorrelato (inventario de perceções sobre violência doméstica e homicídio conjugal Este estudo abrangeu 205 estudantes universitários a nível nacional da Universidade Lusófona do Porto, com o objetivo de perceber as suas perceções acerca da violência nas relações de intimidade contra os homens. Os resultados confirmam a literatura demonstrando perceções desadequadas, sobre o fenómeno de uma forma geral. A subescala do autorreconhecimento como vítima revelou-se adequada, mas apenas em associação com o contacto direto com a violência nas relações de intimidade e no elevado ano escolar. Violence in intimate relationships against men has always been present in our society, though it is silent. The stereotype and the social desirability are the main factors associated with the maintenance of this phenomenon of violence in intimate relationships. At international and national levels, university students have inadequate perceptions of this dynamic and are one of the populations in which this phenomenon is present and the prevalence is high. This study aims to provide an understanding of the perceptions of university students to understand the origins of this dynamic. Focusing on these origins, it is important to intervene in a primary way, remodeling the representations and perceptions that these dynamics construct up to here, as a function of the learning behaviors along the "new" concept of a more egalitarian education. As university students are a target population of greater interest in this phenomenon, an online self-report instrument (inventory of perceptions about domestic violence and conjugal homicide) was carried out. This study covered 205 university students at the Lusophone University of Porto, with the objective of investigating perceptions around violence in intimate relationships. The results supported the literature which demonstrates inadequate perceptions on the phenomenon. The subscale of self-recognition as a victim has proved to be adequate but only in association with the direct contact with violence in intimate relationships and in the high school years.
