Pressão económica, satisfação conjugal e bem-estar nos casais portugueses

Portugal tem atravessado por sucessivas crises financeiras e uma constante inflação, estes têm vindo a exigir cada vez mais dos recursos de muitos casais Portugueses, deixando-os com graves problemas económicos. Tornou-se num grande desafio para muitas famílias e casais lidarem com a pressão económica crescente, com correlatos prováveis na qualidade da sua relação conjugal e no seu bem-estar individual. Os objetivos do presente estudo foram: analisar os níveis de pressão económica, satisfação conjugal e bem-estar individual dos participantes; analisar as associações entre as variáveis de interesse e examinar se as variáveis de interesse diferem em função do nível educacional dos participantes. O presente estudo é de natureza quantitativa transversal e teve a sua recolha de dados entre Julho de 2023 e Maio de 2024. Integrou a recolha em modalidade online e presencial, com método de amostragem por conveniência O estudo integrou 148 participantessendo os critérios de inclusão os seguintes: a) “Encontrar-se presentemente numa relação de casal heterossexual exclusiva (casados ou em coabitação)”, b) “Pelo menos um membro do casal ter nacionalidade Portuguesa”; c) “A residência da família ser em Portugal”; d)“Ter bom domínio da língua portuguesa”. Foram utilizados um conjunto de questionários: Sociodemográfico, Escala de esforço económico familiar (Hilton & Devall, 1997; VP Mixão, 2007); Índice de satisfação conjugal (Funk & Rogge, 2007; VP Lamela et al., 2018); Escala de bem-estar psicológico (Ryff & Keyes, 1995; VP Novo, 2003). Foi encontrada uma associação negativa moderada e significativa entre a Pressão Económica e o Bem-estar (r=-.467) e uma associação positiva moderada e significativa entre a Satisfação Conjugal e o Bem-estar (r=.302). Foram encontradas associações significativas entre a Pressão Económica e a Satisfação Conjugal tendo em conta o nível de escolaridade dos participantes. Os resultados foram discutidos tendo por base o Modelo de Stress Familiar Económico (MSFE) de Conger & Elder (1996). Implicações clínicas foram estabelecidas na discussão e os dados encontrados foram de acordo e contra o que autores referiram em seus estudos.
Portugal has gone through successive financial crises and constant inflation, which have made increasing demands on the resources of many Portuguese couples, leaving them with serious economic problems. It has become a major challenge for many families and couples to cope with the growing economic pressure, which likely correlates in the quality of their marital relationship and their individual well-being. The focus of the present study was to analyze in detail the economic effects on couple satisfaction and their well-being, making a possible relationship with their socioeconomic status and level of education. The objectives of this study were to analyze the levels of economic pressure, marital satisfaction and individual well-being of the participants; To analyze the associations between the variables of interest and to examine whether the variables of interest differ according to the educational level of the participants. This is a cross-sectional quantitative study which collected data between July 2023 and May 2024. It included online and face-to-face data collection, using a convenience sampling method. The inclusion criteria were as follows: a) “Currently in an exclusive heterosexual couple relationship (married or cohabiting)”, b) “At least one member of the couple has Portuguese nationality”; c) “The family's residence is in Portugal”; d) “Have a good command of the Portuguese language”. A set of questionnaires will be used: Sociodemographic, Family Economic Stress Scale (Hilton & Devall, 1997; VP Mixão, 2007); Marital Satisfaction Index (Funk & Rogge, 2007; VP Lamela et al., 2018); Psychological Well-being Scale (Ryff & Keyes, 1995; VP Novo, 2003). The results were discussed on the basis of the Model of Economic Family Stress (MSFE). A moderate and significant negative association was found between Economic Pressure and Well-being (r=-.467), as well as a moderate and significant positive association between Marital Satisfaction and Well-being (r=.302). Significant differences were found between Economic Pressure and Marital Satisfaction taking into account the participants' level of education. Clinical implications were established in the discussion, data were found that were both in agreement with and against what authors have referred to in their studies.
